Have you been on a carnival cruise?

This is what the FAQ's say about the dress code.

"Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner. "

So should I buy a suit? This is a 4 day cruise on the Fascination cruise ship.

Answer :
i was just on the same ship. for formal night u dont need a suit just get a tie a dress shirt and pants... trust me there are people that dont dress up and if u dont they will still let u in the cocktail party and dinner trust me i saw people with cutoff shorts and a woman does not need a real fancy dress either. trust me you will enjoy seeing other peoples versions of dressed up.

Answer :
a suit is not neccesary but a nice sports jacket over a nice shirt is good
i have been on two carnival cruises and they do not really enforce the dress code rule although i do wish that they did, becausse it would be nice to have everyone follow the rules
i do when cruising and reccomend to do so

Answer :
A nice jacket and slacks and a tie will do and their will probably be one formal night and you dont even have to attend it if you dont want to but a nice dress shirt and slacks and a tie should do you fine and dont waste your money unless you plan on cruising again.

Answer :
Just go with a nice shirt/ tie and slacks ... sportscoat if you have one. The dining room meals are nice, but I honestly prefer just hitting the buffets or sushi bars. Do the dining room on lobster tail night.. you can have as many as you want. don't forget your flask.

Answer :
I have been on two. The first time was a 3 day, and I did not take a suit. On formal night I just wore slacks and a button down shirt. The second was a five day, and I took a brown suit and matching tie. My wife wore an upscale dress.

We saw many people on formal night that did not "dress" for the occasion, and many that did. It is entirely up to you. Be advised that they are serious about the no shorts. I have seen the matre d' on both cruises refuse admittance to people who were not dressed appropriately.

Answer :
I was going to go on a Carnival Cruise, but when the Cruise ship pulled to the doc 1.4 Million Clowns poured out and I got Intimidated.

Men will wear a suit, tux, dress pants, shirt, tie and jacket. If you don't want to go buy something you can rent a tux on board. On a 4 day cruise you will only have 1 dress night.

Answer :
yeah you should. The dining room is formal and you won't see anyone that isn't dressed up. Even the waiters are dressed formally. It really is nice kind of like a five star restaurant in my opinion

Answer :
I just went on my first carnival cruise (Elation)in Februaury and loved it. People were dressed in anything and everything at dinner. Everything from casual (polo shirt and khakis) to very formal wear is fine. Don't overpack! I made that mistake and didn't wear half the things I packed. Have a great time and enjoy yourself!

Answer :
Yes, if you plan on eating in the main dining room. In addition they are always snapping photos so when you are at the formal dinners it looks better - they also display the photos for EVERYONE to see.

Carnival Cruise????

Hey guys,

my family is palnning to go on a 4 night/5 day vacation on the Carnival Cruise Fascination. But i've read alot of rip off reports about the Carnival Company. Our port of call is Miami to Key West to Cuzumel Mexico then back. If you have gone on this same type of vacation, did the boat """"acidently"" take u to Depresso or ssoemthing like that in Mexico instead due to """"Engine Trouble"""""??

Also how was your cruise?

Goods??? Cons????
If you have a teenager or are a teenager (me!!!) did they enjoy the cruise?? how bout the kids???

thanks!, these companies are leaving me curious so im sorry for asking so much

Answer :
We cruise on Carnival with our teen and 'tween.

We have only been re-routed once to Progresso and it was due to a hurricane. Yes, Progresso is a developing city so it is a bit unpolished but we had a good time shopping in the open air market and the beach is OK.

My kids love the 24x7 pizza. My teen even eats it for breakfast.

The kids love the teen parties at the disco, the arcade and running around with vacation friends. Be sure to sign up for the kids club when you arrive. They will give you the scoop on when/where of the teen events.

Recommendation for traveling with teens....get a set of the 2-way radios to keep in touch while on board. This gives the teens freedom to enjoy their vacation and gives the parents peace of mind. No missed check-ins or waiting around for someone. You can find them at Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, Target.

Don't separate while in port. Stay with your parents/group.

Answer :
I went on my first Carnival cruise this past year and I loved it! I was on Elation and we went to the Bahamas. The only complaint I had about it was the last day when you are leaving the boat, it gets really hectic and it was very unorganized. But the cruise itself was very fun. They had a teen dance club, a piano bar, tons of shows, a pool with a huge slide...there is so much to do, I'm jealous that you get to go! :) We went for my younger brothers high school spring break, and he and all his friends loved it. Have fun!!!

Answer :
I have been on Fascination twice, although both trips were to the Bahamas, and on the Elation traveling to Key West and Cozumel. I have never had any issues with Carnival rerouting but would assume if they did it was a legitimate reason. I have taken my teens on a few cruises and they have an awesome time. If you have any questions you can always check out cruisecritic.com, its a website for people who cruise, alot....lol and you can probably have every question you can think of answered there.

Answer :
Hi,
The Fascination is a good ship and you should enjoy it as a teen. In the cruise contracts for all cruise lines, they do put in a clause stating that they can substitue ports for whatever reason. It's not just Carnival. My best advice would be to check out cruisecritic.com and read the message boards. Usually if there is a ship that is chronically changing it's ports such as the NCL Dream was last year, you will be able to get alot of info from the message boards. Most of these routes are long term routes and are repeated weekly so the cruise lines really try not to change them unless it is unavoidable and even with 'engine problems' coz is close enought so that you probably wouldn't get diverted.

Answer :
i went on the same cruise but we went 2 costa maya instead of key west and our cruise was amazing it was so fun and they have night clubs 4 teenagers so its very fun!!!!!!!

Answer :
Well,we went on a Carnival cruise recently. That was a different route though. It was from NY city to Canada.
I don't think there was anything like rip off.Infact, they have the best deals. All meals included.Services like baby sitting, spa are quite reasonable.
They have good shopping too,Except jewellery.BE CAREFUL NOT TO BUY JEWELLERY AT THEIR DUTY FREE SHOPS.
I bought a gold bracelet which they marketed as gold and after returning,I found out that it was just gold plated.I paid a good amount for a nice looking ring and it rusted within a month.
Apart from shopping, they will also have your pictures taken & try to sell you(optional).Don't buy them. They are not worth the money.
I have to say , cruise was not great for teenagers.90% of the passengers were senior citizens. But that's ok too.
And lastly the tips, you must clarify that from your travel agent before you sail.
So good luck & Enjoy your trip!

Answer :
Normally, IF a cruise line changes course it's for a good reason such as severe weather or potential for it (hurricane) or damage to a port due to weather. We originally booked Key West, Cozumel, Bellize and Nassau Bahamas. Due to hurricane damage the previous season they dropped Cozumel and added Costa Maya...closer to the cruise the port in Cozumel reopened and they added Cozumel back, but dropped Key West. We ended up with Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize and Nassau...none of which I could drive to if I wanted (Key West I can) was I upset? Heck no we had an awesome time. Cruise lines don't make money by cutting corners or "ripping people off," they make money by keeping you happy. Therefore, I feel pretty comfortable saying IF the itinerary changes it's usually for a valid reason and they do try to compensate for it.

Can i book my return flight at 12:30pm or is that too early?

i am taking a cruise on jan. 15th 2009 on the carnival fascination for our honeymoon. our ship returns monday the 19th at 8 am in jacksonville florida. will a 12:30 PM flight be too early? is there a chance we could miss this flight? this is our first cruise. thanks in advance.

**also our flight gets in at 1130 am on the 15th is that early enough to beat the crowds getting on the ship? thanks!

Answer :
The 11:30 arrival should be fine. I'd have a late afternoon flight out of there though. The ship docks at 8 am, but you won't get off the ship then. They empty the ship by decks and you might have to wait awhile. Plus, you'll probably go through customs, and you never know how long that will take. Then catching a taxi or bus. And getting to the airport and checking your luggage.

However, if you reserve the flight with the cruise, they will give you options and be able to get your luggage to the airport for you. That would save time, but it's usually more expensive.

I'd give myself some more time if booking it myself. You can always go to the airport for lunch, and have a chance to not be rushed in case there is a problem. Congratulations and best wishes, by the way!

Answer :
Not sure about the cruise thing, but I've flown in and out of Jacksonville several times, and b/c it's a small airport, it's a breeze to get through check-in and security. Though things can happen, I'm usually through security and to my gate in :15-:20 minutes. It's a nice quaint airport. I'm not sure where the port is located, but the airport is on the north side of Jacksonville, north of 295 - about 10-15 miles from coast. Hopes this helps relieve some of the pre-wedding planning stress.

Answer :
Depends on how far the port is away from the airport. Also that is assuming the cruise is right on time. Generally you should check into the airport about an hour before your flight, so you want to get there at 11:30- That leaves three and a half hours. I think it should be okay, unless the airport is ridiculously far!

As far as the flight getting in at 11:30, you didn't tell us what time the ship leaves so I can't really answer the question...

Good luck!

Answer :
Hi and congratulations!

I just returned from a cruise in July, so here is my advice:

~ Yes, a 12:30 flight should be good. Really, you have a "staggered" list of who gets off the ship at various times, but you can get off at any time after it docks (so, say about 9 a.m.). Then, you need to get your luggage, get to the airport, etc., etc.

~ The 11:30 a.m. is good getting into Jacksonville, but you will need to check with the cruise line as to when you can actually board. We were on Royal Caribbean and we could not board until 1 p.m. We ended up getting on at 2 p.m., but we were certainly NOT the first person(s) to board.

YES, I think the times getting in and departing will be very good for you.

Make sure to tell them you are on your honeymoon. Or, tell your travel agent if you worked with one. You may get a little "perk" like a free bottle of champagne or something.

Have fun! I just LOVE cruises!!

Answer :
i just went on a cruise last week! you can book a 12:30pm flight, that is plenty of time. any passengers who have a flight that day are let off of the ship first. you can get off the ship as early as 6:30am if you need to.
and as far as your flight coming in at 11:30am - that's a perfect time. we got on our ship right around noon. there were other people waiting in line with us, but it got way more crowded later. i think 1130am is early enoguh to beat the crowd for sure.
